"Not all those who wander are lost."J.R.R. Tolkien
We were on the road to Glacier National Park, when we landed at West Shore State Park at Flathead Lake (southwest of Glacier NP). Thank goodness the RV windshield is huge, it makes taking pictures on the move easy.

Highway 93 around Flathead Lake caught our attention, it seemed like a little mix of Lake Tahoe (NV), Crater Lake (OR), and Traverse City (MI) all wrapped up into one fine locale.
The view from the scenic overlook right next door to camp spot B12 looked like this:

We may have to stay an extra day around here.

Our Day Trip to Fairy Lake

Our thoughts were to take a Jeep rated trail to the high country and then do a short half mile round trip hike to Fairy Lake.
This is what we intended to see:

This is what we saw:
Not thinking about the Jeep trail being closed due to snow, we were required to park at mile marker one and hike the rest of the way if we wanted to see the alpine lake. The lake is a little past mile marker six.

So our short hike just became a 10 mile round trip hike to the lake. Thank goodness we had a bag of beef jerky, a can of wasabi nuts, a candy bar and 2 liters of water. The journey to the lake was up, up, up and more up. Coming back down was welcomed relief.

Along the way there were, lets say some lads that were slightly younger than we were, they passed us going up the snow bound trail. Their intent was to camp and night ski off the top of the mountain. I think they were a little more ambitious than we were. (We did actually get to pass them once on the way to the lake.) I know they had to be thinking that there is no way those "old" folks are going to make it to Fairy Lake, but we did. Ha!

May 29th

After taking a 10 hour sleep break, we moved on down the road to Livingston, MT. This will be our base for a few days, while we use the Jeep to take a few day trips. The scenery is absolutely wonderful.

Oh and did I mention that you have to remember to fully hook-up the Jeep or it may not tow or follow the RV like it is suppose to...Tourist...what are you going to do with them?

May 27th & 28th

After a crazy end to the school year and surviving moving day...we are now ready to hit the road. So, what would one do to prepare for a long RV trip to Alaska, buy tires...so we did at the tune of $1400. Who would have thought that before even leaving the driveway, that we would have a flat tire, but we did! There was a slight delay in leaving.

Our orignal thought was to stop in Lincoln, NE and sleep for a couple of hours and then proceed to Yellowstone. Well, it was decided to keep on driving in hopes of reaching Yellowstone before the sun went down on Thursday so that we could secure a first-come-first-serve camping spot in the park. Not so much, all the other campers thought that same thing. Every campground in the park was full. Bummer, the 30 hour drive consisted of gasoline stops, water fill-up, and campground hunting which turned out to be a bust, but the sunset at Yellowstone was great.
