July 3rd

Today we explored the Canadian national parks of Yoho and Banff.
This morning Lars had his early morning fire and sunrise photo session.

After breakfast we took Canadian Highway 1 through Yoho NP to Banff NP.

With much anticipation we couldn’t wait to get to Lake Moraine and Lake Louise in Banff. But, to our surprise Lake Moraine was missing half the lake…hmmm, what caused this? Is it because the mountains haven’t finished the spring thaw? No one could really give us an answer as to why it was exceptionally low, just that it had been that way for years. We were there in 2005 and it didn’t look like it did today. Take a look for yourself:

Now Lake Louise on the other hand, looked fabulous!
Especially great was the food and drink on the patio at the Fairmont Hotel.
Life is Good (when you have a Curry Chicken Wrap, a Lobster & Shrimp Croissant with Heineken(s) and a view with warm sunshine on your face)!

Lars had an encounter with a bear…

Ok, here is the real bear and it wasn’t much of an encounter…hehehe. But it was still neat to watch the grizzly bear walking down the railroad tracks.

It was now time for our afternoon ice cream break, we opted for a great place in Yoho National Park called Emerald Lake.

On the way home we went by the Natural Bridge, also in Yoho NP.

Whew, vacationing is tough, we were intoxicated with fresh air, sunshine and great views, it was now time to take a nap before dinner.

Video of the Day: Dance for your Dinner!

Thursday we will head to the land of nowhere, really, we will be in the middle of British Columbia in a small National Forest where there is absolutely nothing. Last time we came here and did that we met a retired older fella (Mike) that wished that we would come back and visit him some time. Today is that time. Hopefully we will find him doing well after four years. It may be a few days before the next post. Be safe and have fun all!
